Harvesting
QuilBay uses only environmentally sound and sustainable harvesting methods. We do not use dredges or any other mechanical devices. The only fuel we use is in our outboards to get the products to the trucks and our generators for lights when we harvest at night in the wintertime. All our oysters are picked by hand and our product is delivered live to market.
Our clams are harvested by rake and the ground is turned carefully to not disturb the environment and protect the future seed in our natural set beds. Clams and oysters that are not harvested can over grow areas and lead to large scale die-offs which involves all shellfish and vegetation in those areas. We are the stewards of this eco-system and take pride in being a valuable part of the environment.
